A Lesson On Lumens

The lighting industry is trying to change the way we view and select lighting options.  For years, we’ve all shopped for light bulbs by their wattage, which for a particular brand normally correlated to brightness.  But wattage can only really tell us how much energy the bulb uses, not the color it throws or how bright it is.  With LED (light emitting diode) lighting it is impossible to use watts to measure the brightness, so we rely on the actual measure of brightness called Lumens to help us gauge their performance.

Lumens = brightness

Wattage = energy

LED vs. incandescent lights

The lighting industry is booming right now.  Incandescent lights are going away – really, really slowly… but they are.  They’re expensive to light, they don’t last very long and they don’t pack the colorful punch of an LED light.

LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights are a great way for you conserve energy and create amazing backyard ambiance.  Unlike incandescent lights, LED lights do not have a filament to burn out – they are solid-state semiconductor devices that convert electrical energy directly into light.  They generate far less heat, they last much longer so you’ll have less service calls and they use significantly less energy.

But quite possibly one of the greatest benefits, other than lowering your carbon footprint, is what they can do for your backyard.  Our color LED lights aren’t just brighter, they are programmed so you can create different colors, change transition between colors and speed. So you can light up your pool and spa to suit any look.  When combined with Pro Logic, they’re also dimmable and speed can be adjusted – so when you’re looking for the feel of a backyard retreat, they can give you a soothing look.  Wanna rock the house?  Crank up the intensity and speed them up.*
